Family Meals: They Are Important!
Table Time Conversation
Handout 1
Family meals provide a great opportunity to spend fun time together learning
more about each other. To encourage table time conversation:
1) Sit at the table for family meals.
2) Turn off the TV.
3) Avoid other distractions; i.e., newspapers, toys, etc.
4) Make mealtime pleasant by encouraging positive conversation.
Try some of these conversation starters if you need help getting your family
talking. Remember all ages can join in table time conversation.
- What did you eat for lunch or snack today?
- When I grow up (no matter what your present age), I want to
be...
- Happiness is...
- The most important things in my life...
- The best thing that happened to me today...
- What are your favorite colors?
- What is something funny that happened today?
- What is your favorite kind of car?
- What is your favorite TV show?
- Where would you like to go on vacation?
- What is one of your favorite hobbies?
- What is your favorite boy's name? What is your favorite girl's
name? Ask why?
