Money - Share Itcartoon of Connie and lady holding a box.

After you have gotten money, learned to spend it wisely and have saved some, it is time to learn about sharing. When you decide to share your money, always talk to your parents first. Your parents can help you make good decisions about how to use your money.

Why would you want to share your money?

  • Maybe to make others feel better or help those who are not as fortunate as you.
  • You may want to do something for other people like buy them a present for a birthday or Christmas.
  • There may be a project in your town or city - like building a park, community center or a place where boys and girls can meet after school.

After you select a project or someone you would like to share something with, you must decide how much you are going to save or spend. You will need to know if you will use money you already have (maybe in savings) or if you will need to save some money.

Then you will have to decide how much money you will share. Again, talk to your parents about how much that will be. If you do not have enough money right now, you will have to set a goal to save for.

If you must save to reach your sharing goal, how do you plan to get money? Remember the information earlier.

Cartoon of Chris and Connie.Ways to get money include:

  • saving pennies, nickels, dimes or quarters

  • collecting cans
  • saving money you would usually spend on toys or snacks for yourself.

What if you just don't have any money? There are other ways you can share that may be just as good. You could share your time or do things for other people. Sometimes that is better than spending money.

Something to Do

Print My Plan to Share and decide on a plan to share your money or other resources with those who could use your help.
