Money - How To Save It

So far the Cash Kids have learned to get and spend money. Now they are going to learn something VERY important - how to save money. Saving money may not be as fun as spending it, so why do millions of people stash their cash?  Because they want to buy something bigger, better or more expensive than they can buy right not, and they are willing to wait until they have enough money tocartoon of Chris with piggy bank. do it.

Saving money is simply postponing spending. Learning to save is like learning to ride a bicycle. You didn't learn to ride a bicycle the very first time you rode one. You may have used training wheels. Then you had learn to turn corners without tipping over. It's the same way with saving money. You don't wake up one morning and have all the money saved that you need. You save slowly but surely, a little bit at a time. And finally you will have enough for that something special you want to buy.

Are there any magic tricks in learning to save? Sorry, no magic tricks. There are some games to play which can make saving easier. Try:

Cut out or draw a picture of what you want to save for. Put it where you will see it often. Every time you see it, you will be reminded to save.

Try giving up buying one thing every week and save the money. Skip the afternoon candy or soft drink. Put the money in the bank instead.

Have a savings contest with a brother or sister. See who can fill up a bank first. There are directions on how to make a bank in this section.

Make savings a habit once you reach your first goal. Try to keep saving the same amount each week for something.

Save your money before you have time to think about spending it. Save an amount from each allowance you get as soon as you get it. Don't ever wait to save what is left over.

Something to Do

The Penny Guy - Animated picture of penny with arms, legs, and hands, walking. Make a Cash Kids bank!!! You will need:

A 1# can (the kind coffee comes in) with a plastic lid

A printed copy of the page with the Cash Kids and a  space for YOUR NAME. (You will need legal sized paper so the page will fit around the can.)

Crayons or markers

Color the wrapper and then tape or glue it around the can.

Have an adult cut a slit in the top of the plastic lid so money will go through it.

AND BEGIN SAVING YOUR MONEY!

Print the coloring page about Connie as she brings her money to the bank.
