Week 5 - Genetics
We'll learn to use a Punnett Square and about dominant
and recessive genes. We'll even do a DNA extraction.
Week 6 - Classification
What is classification? Who came up with it? How are
living things classified? We'll learn how to classify. We'll
also learn about the dichotomous key and how to make one.
Week 7 - Single-Celled Organisms
Where do single-celled organisms fit in? We'll hunt for
single-celled organisms in our classroom and on our campus,
and then use the microscope to classify them.

We'll learn all about kingdom Animalia. How do you
determine if something is an animal? Can you identify
animals that live in our area?
Week 11 - Dissection
We'll continue our study of animals by doing several
dissections. Tentative dissections are crayfish, frog, and a
demonstration of a fetal pig dissection.
Week 12 - Presentations
We will take the post-test today. Each student will give
a presentation of his or her semester-long project to fellow
classmates. We'll end the day with a fun activity.
Be prepared for the weather. You'll notice we'll be outside many
days for at least part of the day. Please dress appropriately.
Grades given at the end of the semester. I will give a grade to
each student at the end of the semester. The grade will be based
upon the final test, participation, and the semester project. Grades
will be e-mailed to you. A hard copy on letterhead can be sent upon
request.
Weekly report. I will e-mail each biology student's parent (to
the e-mail address given when you registered) a Weekly report on
what we have done in class. E-mail is also a great way to get in
touch with me if you have questions.
If you ever have any questions, just give me a call or e-mail me.
