4-H Shooting Training Courses
August 26-27, 2010

State 4-H Certification will be offered in the shotgun, rifle, pistol, muzzleloader and archery disciplines. Participants will be able to obtain certification in a single discipline as a Certified 4-H Shooting Sports Instructor.

Certified 4-H Shooting Sports Instructor Training: This two-day course emphasizes youth education, instruction, marksmanship and firearms safety. Additional sessions will provide training for county agents, program assistants and volunteers in developing and implementing shooting sports programs, firearms and range safety, and descriptions of competitive opportunities including the state competitions.

Those who wish to coordinate and/or instruct youth in any 4-H shooting sports club at local practices or for competition at any state level activity, event or program are required to receive this certification as a 4-H Shooting Sports Instructor. Teen Leaders (16 years or older) are eligible to enroll in this course. A participant will receive Teen Leader certification in any one shooting discipline. Teen Leaders will be qualified to train county youth in their discipline under supervision of a certified adult.

We will be offering the following short-courses on Thursday (Aug. 26) evening (7:00), prior to the Instructor Training Workshop which commences Friday, Aug. 27.

1) Hunter Education Instructor training/certification
2) 4-H/YHEC Compass & Orienteering

These courses are optional, and you may sign up for either the Hunter Ed. Instructor course (1) OR the Compass & Orienteering course (2).

You will need to have already taken the AGFC Hunter Education student course to be eligible for the Hunter Ed. Instructor Training. The application for the Hunter Ed. Instructor Course is in this packet, and must be returned with other registration materials if you plan on taking the course. There is no prerequisite for the Compass & Orienteering and Safety Trail short-courses, and they will cover everything coaches need to know for the 4-H/YHEC Orienteering Challenge, Hunter Safety Trail, and Wildlife ID events.

Firearms, ammunition and bows & arrows for Instructor Certification Training: Participants registered for the Training Workshop are encouraged to bring a firearm or bow appropriate to their discipline for use during the training. Absolutely no ammunition or broadhead arrows can be brought onto the 4-H Center grounds.

Those attending Shooting Sports Instructor workshops will be required to assist with at least two state level 4-H Shooting Sports Training workshops for leaders and with event leadership in their discipline at the State Competitions within the next three years.

Please keep the Tentative Agenda that is found in this packet. It lists all pertinent times for arrival, short-courses, departure, etc. It may be the only schedule you will receive prior to arrival at the 4-H Center.
