4-H Shooting Training Courses
August 26-27, 2010
State 4-H Certification will be offered in the shotgun, rifle,
pistol, muzzleloader and archery disciplines. Participants will
be able to obtain certification in a single discipline as a
Certified 4-H Shooting Sports Instructor.
Certified 4-H Shooting Sports Instructor Training: This
two-day course emphasizes youth education, instruction, marksmanship
and firearms safety. Additional sessions will provide training for
county agents, program assistants and volunteers in developing and
implementing shooting sports programs, firearms and range safety,
and descriptions of competitive opportunities including the state
competitions.
Those who wish to coordinate and/or instruct youth in any 4-H
shooting sports club at local practices or for competition at any
state level activity, event or program are required to receive this
certification as a 4-H Shooting Sports Instructor. Teen Leaders
(16 years or older) are eligible to enroll in this course. A
participant will receive Teen Leader certification in any one
shooting discipline. Teen Leaders will be qualified to train county
youth in their discipline under supervision of a certified adult.
We will be offering the following short-courses on Thursday
(Aug. 26) evening (7:00), prior to the Instructor Training Workshop
which commences Friday, Aug. 27.
1) Hunter Education Instructor training/certification
2) 4-H/YHEC Compass & Orienteering
These courses are optional, and you may sign up for either the
Hunter Ed. Instructor course (1) OR the Compass & Orienteering
course (2).
You will need to have already taken the AGFC Hunter Education
student course to be eligible for the Hunter Ed. Instructor
Training. The application for the Hunter Ed. Instructor Course is in
this packet, and must be returned with other registration materials
if you plan on taking the course. There is no prerequisite for
the Compass & Orienteering and Safety Trail short-courses, and they
will cover everything coaches need to know for the 4-H/YHEC
Orienteering Challenge, Hunter Safety Trail, and Wildlife ID events.
Firearms, ammunition and bows & arrows for Instructor
Certification Training: Participants registered for the Training
Workshop are encouraged to bring a firearm or bow appropriate to
their discipline for use during the training.
Absolutely no ammunition or broadhead arrows can be
brought onto the 4-H Center grounds.
Those attending Shooting Sports Instructor workshops will be
required to assist with at least two state level 4-H Shooting Sports
Training workshops for leaders and with event leadership in their
discipline at the State Competitions within the next three years.

It lists all pertinent times for arrival, short-courses, departure,
etc. It may be the only schedule you will receive prior to arrival
at the 4-H Center.
