Arkansas 4-H Projects

Projects are the base of 4-H work. In Arkansas we have a wide variety of projects ranging from goats to computers! Whatever your interest, 4-H has a project for you. Project work can help you achieve your goals in life by teaching you life skills through "learn-by-doing" activities. Many former 4-H'ers are now in a career that relates to the project they took while in 4-H. Project work can help you determine your interests and develop knowledge and skills in the areas in which you are most interested. It's not like school -- in 4-H you get to choose what you want to study. An all project curriculum is research-based and activity-oriented so you won't get bored while you learn.

By "project" we mean work done with animals or crops, articles made or some other definite enterprise undertaken by 4-H'ers. The project should be one that fits well into the home and community. It should be practical and provide some income, savings or satisfaction to the 4-H'ers. Most projects are supported by county, district and state activities which can help you learn more about your project area or let you demonstrate and be recognized for what you have learned by participating in competitive activities. As 4-H members, you can participate in any 4-H activities or events for which you qualify -- just ask your county Extension agent.

What Is the Purpose Of a Project?

  • Help 4-H members grow.

  • Help develop life skills.

  • Help 4-H'ers learn to work with others.

  • Encourage 4-H'ers to set and reach goals.

  • Teach latest scientific methods.

  • Help 4-H'ers learn responsibility.
