4-H Master Volunteer Re-Certification Policy

To re-certify for an additional two year period, the Certified County 4-H Master Volunteer must:

  1. Attend any required update training sessions as deemed necessary by the tract facilitators or the 4-H Master Volunteer Steering Committee.
  2. Conduct at least two additional workshops for adults and/or youth in the area of certification (county, district or state level)
  3. Complete one of the following criteria in your area of certification:
  4. Any 4-H Master Volunteer:

    Teach at least two hours of subject matter in the area of certification at a state or district training for Master 4-H Volunteers

    Club Organization and Maintenance 4-H Master Volunteers:

    Organize a 4-H club or project group in the county (must have adult volunteer other than a Master Volunteer and elected officers) and maintain it for at least nine months.

    Organize and recruit a non-4-H adult volunteer to teach a special interest or short term program with specific subject matter to a primarily non-enrolled, new youth group that meet for at least three series of meetings.

    Organize and teach an Extension approved school enrichment program.

    Presentations and Visuals 4-H Master Volunteers:

    Judge or secure and train judges for a county, district or state 4-H O-Rama event which requires an illustrated talk or demonstration. (Must judge at least 5 talks to qualify)

    Assist at least five (5) 4-H members in developing presentation outlines and accompanying visual plans for competition at the county, district or state level. (At least three must be other than the Master Volunteer's local 4-H club members.)

    Critique at least five (5) 4-H members' presentations prior to county, district or state level competition. (At least three must be other than the Master Volunteer's local 4-H club members.)

    Organize and facilitate a county poster-making session prior to county, district or state competition.

    Project Records 4-H Master Volunteers:

    Judge 4-H project records (at least 5 record books) on the county or state level.

    Serve on the state Advanced Record Book Interview Committee.

    Critique at least 5 record books prior to county or state judging (three must be other than the Master Volunteer's local 4-H club members).

    Assist at least five 4-H members in developing 4-H project plans using Arkansas 4-H Project Plan (CES-639) worksheet. (Three must be other than the Master Volunteer's local 4-H club members.)

    Livestock & Poultry 4-H Master Volunteers:

    Attend one of the following programs offered by the Cooperative Extension Service: Beef Clinic, Horse Clinic, Dairy Goat Clinic, Rabbit Clinic, Youth Poultry Symposium, State Livestock & Poultry Judging Clinic, or Sheep Clinic.

    Serve as superintendent for a livestock area at the county or district fair or Jackpot Show.

    Backpacker / Outdoor Skills 4-H Master Volunteers:

    Organize and facilitate an overnight backpacking experience for youth.

    Organize a 4-H outdoor adventure project club in the county.

    Shooting Sports 4-H Master Volunteers:

    Organize or assist with organizing and conducting a county  or state 4-H Shooting Sports event/competition.

    Organize or assist with organizing a county 4-H Shooting Sports club or group.

    Note: Additional qualifying criteria may be approved by the 4-H Master Volunteer Steering Committee. Requests must be made in writing to the 4-H Youth Development Office at least two weeks prior to date approval is needed.

  5. Submit a report of accomplishments in the tract for which you are certified to the state 4-H Youth Development Office by September 30 of the 4-H year your certification ends. These reports will require the signature of the volunteers' County Extension Agent verifying your accomplishments. The accomplishments reported must include Item 1 (when applicable) and Item 2 as well as one of the criteria in your area of certification listed in Item 3 above.

Note: If you are certified as a 4-H Master Volunteer in more than one area, you must submit a report for each area for which you wish to be re-certified.
