Project Records
All 4-H
records submitted for district or state honors must be in a
4-H club member's record binder. Each year's work should be reported
on a calendar basis beginning on January 1 and ending on December
31. Contact the county Extension office for due dates.
- 4-H
members will be allowed to report 4-H work conducted prior
to their ninth birthday in 4-H Journals submitted for district and
state honors. However, a 4-H member must be 9 years old as of
January 1 the year the Journals are judged.
- There
is no limit to the number of times that a senior 4-H member may be
named a county 4-H project winner in the same project before the 4-H
member has been named a state project winner. However, after having
been named a state project winner, a 4-H member becomes
ineligible to compete for honors in the same project area in
which he or she was named a state winner.
- To be
named a state Journal winner in any category which provides a trip
to National 4-H Congress, a 4-H member must agree to attend Congress
as a member of the Arkansas delegation. Anyone not willing to
accept these conditions should not submit a Journal for state
judging. If the 4-H member does not attend, he/she will be
expected to reimburse the state 4-H Youth Development Office for any
cost incurred.
- A
senior 4-H member may be named a state advanced project Journal
winner (age 16-19) only once, therefore they may attend National 4-H
congress only once as a state project Journal winner. All 4-H
members must have completed at least one calendar year (January
1-December 31) of 4-H work before being named a state project
winner.
- The
Journal judging committee, state specialists, Assistant Director -
4-H Youth Development, and 4-H specialists may exercise the right to
set minimum standards for naming state winners in a project area. If
it is determined that minimum standards are not met, no winner will
be named in that project for the year.
- 4-H
Journals will be judged according to the following age categories:
Beginners 9 – 12, Intermediates 13 – 15; and Advanced 16 – 19.
Note:
Beginners:
A 4-H member must be 9 years old as of January 1 the year in which
the Journals are judged.
Intermediates:
A 4-H
member must be 13 years old as of January 1 the year in which the
Journals are judged.
Advanced:
A 4-H
member may not submit a Journal for judging if they are not eligible
to be a 4-H member the year in which the Journals are judged. (4-H
members who turn 19 in one calendar year are not eligible to submit
a 4-H Journal the following calendar year.)
- If
4-H project Journals do not meet the guidelines for submission, they
will be stamped ineligible and returned without being judged. County
Extension Agents are responsible for making sure all Journals meet
eligibility guidelines.
Advanced Journal winners will be eligible to apply for Category B
scholarships (available to former state advanced Journal winners
only) the year they are a graduating high school senior. To be
eligible for these scholarships, graduating high school senior 4-H
members or those who are already in college should submit a
completed scholarship application and must have been accepted to the
college or institution of higher learning of their choice.

Activities and Events for further information.
