County 4-H Master Volunteer Policy

  1. The title County 4-H Master Volunteer is to be used ONLY when doing programs representing the Cooperative Extension Service.
  2. County 4-H Master Volunteers will be supported and supervised by county Extension staff. They will report directly to county Extension staff.
  3. Volunteer Liability Immunity -- County 4-H Master Volunteers are covered under the Arkansas Volunteer Immunity Act of 1987. Volunteers are not to be held civilly liable for their acts or omissions in carrying out their responsibilities as volunteers if such acts or omissions were performed in good faith and did not constitute gross negligence. There is an exception. When the volunteer is covered by a separate and/or personal policy of insurance, the liability is limited to the amount of the coverage provided.
  4. County 4-H Master Volunteers must complete and abide by all requirements of the program in order to be certified as Cooperative Extension Service County 4-H Master Volunteers.
  5. Certified County 4-H Master Volunteers must:

    1. Complete the county-level, 16-hour workshop,
    2. Collaborate with county Extension faculty for planning and conducting training,
    3. Teach at least two workshops in the county outside of own club, and
    4. Keep required records and submit to 4-H Youth Development Office by October 1.

  6. Certification is valid for two years. A volunteer may be re-certified if they meet the re-certification requirement (See re-certification policy ).
  7. Participants are expected to attend all training sessions. If for some reason, a participant will be unable to attend all sessions, they are encouraged to drop the program and reapply for admission to the next training program. Notify the county Extension office if an emergency should prevent program attendance.

The County 4-H Master Volunteer is not to advertise his/her name, place of business, or be listed in the advertisement of his/her business as "Certified 4-H Master Volunteer." The County 4-H Master Volunteer program is an Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service public service effort providing unbiased educational information. It is improper to appear as a commercial activity, having association with commercial products, or giving implied or direct Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service endorsement of any product or place of business.
