School Credit for Community Service - Act 648ACT 648 1993
BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ARKANSAS: SECTION 1. (a) Beginning with the 1996-97 school year, a student who has completed a minimum of seventy five (75) clock hours of documented community service in grades nine (9) through twelve (12), as certified by the service agency or organization to the school, shall be eligible to receive one (1) academic credit that may be applied toward graduation. (b) The community service shall be in programs or activities approved by the State Board of Education and the local school board and shall include preparation, action, and reflection components. (c) A local school board may grant a waiver of this requirement with notice to the State Board of Education. (d) The State Board of Education is hereby authorized to promulgate rules and regulations necessary for the implementation of this act. SECTION 2. All provisions of this act of a general and permanent nature are amendatory to the Arkansas Code of 1987 Annotated and the Arkansas Code Revision Commission shall incorporate the same in the Code. SECTION 3. If any provision of this act or the application thereof to any person or circumstance is held invalid, such invalidity shall not affect other provisions or applications of the act which can be given effect without the invalid provision or application, and to this end the provisions of this act are declared to be severable. SECTION 4. All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this act are hereby repealed. Approved by Jim Guy Tucker, Governor |
